Are you a woman who has watched the commercials for P90X and said to yourself "that is definitely a man's workout?" The commercials and the stereo type can lead you to believe this however, P90X is not just or men. Many women have had great results from it too.

The workouts

P90X is more then weights. The whole point is to confuse your muscles and this allows for your body to burn calories and build muscles at a faster rate.

When you do that same routine repeatedly, your body can get used to it and you may find yourself at a weight loss plateau that may be very discouraging. This is typically the time that most people quit and go back to their regular sedentary lifestyle, as they may believe their body will not lose any more weight.

P90X comes with 12 workouts that you do on different days. The 90 days are also broken up into weeks. Typically, you will repeat the same seven workouts in a 7-day period for 3 weeks and then the 4th week is a rest week. Do not confuse the word “rest” as there is still some good workouts, just with less weight resistance. Then weeks 5-7 you will repeat another7 workouts and week 8 will be rest. Week 9-11 you do the same workouts and week 12 is rest.

These workouts are predetermined according to a schedule you will receive upon your purchase of the workout. These workouts include.

  • Chest & Back-mostly pull-ups and push-ups. You can use resistance bands instead of a pull up bar.
  • Plyometrics- jump training.
  • Shoulders & Arms-mostly, weight resistance.
  • Yoga X-a very extensive yoga.
  • Legs and Back-mostly squats and pull-ups, and again you can use resistance bands instead of a pull up bar.
  • Kenpo X-punching, kicking and blocking.
  • Stretch-helps you gain great flexibility, a must when becoming fit.
  • Core Synergistics-lots of ab exercises and very light free weights.
  • Chest, Shoulder, and Triceps-mostly, free-weights.
  • Back and Biceps-mostly pull-ups or resistance bands and free weights.
  • Cardio X-some plyometrics, kenpo and other cardio exercises.
  • Ab Ripper X-intense abdominal workout.

How do women compare

Typically women are more flexible then men so a lot of these exercises such as the Yoga, stretch, Ab ripper, and plyometrics may be easier then they are for men.

If a woman does not want big and bulky muscles then less weight and more repetitions will be the best choice. Using 5, 8, and 10-pound free weights would suffice for the entire workout.

The resistance bands use the body for resistance and therefore are a great way to lengthen and tone the muscles.

Using the lighter weights and resistance bands are a nice way to be able to keep up with Toni Horton and his P90X crew and will make you feel great as you complete the entire 90 days with a long and lean body to match.

If you are a woman that would like to lose weight, tone up, or find a fun workout to do that will challenge you then try P90X.
